Nevion joins Alliance for IP Media Solutions

AIMS launched to promote open standards and interoperability in IP.
Nevion, a leader in transporting media from the camera to the home, has joined several other broadcast and media industry organizations to form the Alliance for IP Media Solutions (AIMS). AIMS, an independent trade association, has been established to further the use of open standard and interoperability in IP for broadcasters.
AIMS’s mandate is to bring IP solutions to the market that feature open standards, complete interoperability and can integrate seamlessly into media workflow environments. This will be done by promoting the development, use, and standardization of open protocols for transporting media over IP.
“Nevion has always championed the adoption of standards, and we believe this is the ideal time to start on the path to standardizing IP in broadcast,” says Geir Bryn-Jensen, CEO, Nevion. “Broadcasters are realizing the benefits that IP workflows can bring to their operations in terms of cost-efficiency and flexibility, and as the transition to IP continues and more organizations adopt IP across multiple areas, we need to ensure long-term sustainability and this is precisely where standards and interoperability become crucial.”
The new trade association will focus on three strategic imperatives — initiatives that facilitate the education and adoption of open standards; facilitation of activities that accelerate the development of solutions that support these open standards; and nurturing the creation of new standards by supporting standards bodies with participation and testing in real-world environments.
AIMS will begin its efforts by focusing on the VSF TR-03 and TR-04, SMPTE 2022-6 and AES67 standards.
